The Christmas TV Strategy Guide 2025 #11
30th December 2025

1125 - BBC2
More banging black and white classics from the BBC with this one, with old Orson Welles towering over the film with his film stealing ways. A proper classic
1340 - PBS America
If you want to go full old dad then here’s a full day of Vietnam documentaries, the rest is on tomorrow if you get properly invested
1430 - BBC2
Another Hitchcock classic, maybe not quite top tier but up there. I mean, the next film in his filmography is Rear Window so it’s up against serious competition but is still worth your time
1435 - Legend
This is how they did big and daft back in the old days; get in Charlton Heston and a big old cast of other folks and put them into perilous situations that look at once really ropey but also expensive. A treat!
1450 - BBC1
Well, you watched the first film yesterday (maybe) so you may as well watch the sequel which is actually a really good sequel. It may not hit the heights of the first film but the way it snakes and coils its way through the original story is mind bending and really fun
1610 - BBC2
Wait, didn’t we mention this earlier? We sure did and if you only go with the one Hitchcock film today then really it’s this one; a brilliant setup leads into a tense thriller that still works amazingly well
2000 - BBC1
Listen, I’m a simple man; if I’m flicking through the Radio Times and I see a picture of Gladiator Giant dressed up as a builder about to help a load of folk then I’m watching that show. Simple as that.
2100 - Channel 4
It’s a fact; Bohemian Rhapsody was a really bad film and stole all the money and awards that this film should have got. If Rami Malek got an Oscar for his turn as Freddie then Taron Egerton more than deserved the same, it’s a much better performance. Oh, and some more Bill Bailey on afterwards for your pleasure
2210 - BBC4
This is the stuff! Whilst the recent film was good this is a prime slice of fried 1970s gold with a cast headed by Alec Guinness in imperious form. Honestly, him just putting on a pair of glasses out does 90% of all other performances in that decade, or any other frankly. Love it!
2330 - BBC2
Yeah it was a bit of a damp squib way to end the trilogy but this re-edit tidies up things a bit better. It can’t fix the fundamental flaws in the script and the casting but it plasters over the cracks as best it can. Still, it’s much better than Megalopolis
