The Christmas TV Strategy Guide 2025 #10

29th December 2025

1330 - BBC2

Oooh, this is a good one; one of Hitchcock’s big budget bangers from the 50s, part of a run of films that includes Vertigo Psycho and The Birds. That’s some run of films and the fact that this stands out as one of the best should say something about about just how good it is

1440 - BBC1

Ah yes, from one banger to another as here we have Back to the Future, a film with quite possibly one of the top 3 movie scores of all time. No, it is, that main theme is a sweeping adventure theme like no other and really should be framed in the Louvre

1545 - BBC2

Big Pete Ustinov is back giving it some more Poirot this time on the Nile as folk get murdered and then have the crime solved. Still better than the Branagh one, mind

1635 - ITV3

Only the one Carry On film and it’s another good one. In fact, it has one of the best jokes of the entire series so that's worth tuning in for

1730 - Channel 4

Oh boy! You know I love a submarine film and this a doozy, easily the best Tom Clancy film and one of Connery’s best roles. And after talking about it earlier here we have Sir Kenneth Branagh himself rocking a Poirot with his first and probably his best go so far. Still not the best Poirot but worth a watch. And so is Gangs of New York, which is good but the problem is that no one can stand up to Daniel Day Lewis as he does all of the acting. Like, all of the acting and no one can get near him. So watch his bits and doze through the rest.

2100 - 5 Action

More cowboy films, a pair of Eastwoods; my preference here is High Plains Drifter, it’s more surreal and weird in a way that none of his other films are like. Josey Wales is a good comparison piece to something more realistic so worth watching them together.

2100 - 5 Select

Bit of comedy for you especially if you fancy something from the archives as here we have back to back Tommy Cooper shows that should go over the best bits

2100 - 5

Yes mate! Right here is very possibly the best double bill of the season; back to back Con Air and Face/Off, two of the very best 90s action films. And from the same year, I’ve only just noticed! Nicolas Cage does these two films IN THE SAME YEAR like it’s just something normal that just happens. Nuts. Love both of these

2200 - BBC2

Yes, this is one of the best sequels made but really I’m still thinking about Con Air and Face/Off. Pacino is brilliant and it’s all brilliant but does it have Nic Cage on a speedboat? No it doesn’t

2300 - BBC1

Change of pace with probably one of the best rom coms of the 90s or any other decade that you want to pick. This is the first and best of that period of re-telling classic stories through the lens of teen love and angst, and not just because of Paul Rudd

2320 - Film4

When we look back and do the full grading of the Mission: Impossible films then it’s very likely that this film will be at the top. So many stand out sequences, not to mention Henry Cavil’s fist pumping reload, that just assault the senses in a way few films do. A masterpiece.

0115 - Legend Xtra

Another piece of fine British horror to end the night, one with Vincent Price giving it the full evil beans going about the English countryside torturing folk. A lovely time for all!
