The Christmas TV Strategy Guide 2025 #05
24th December 2025

0900 - BBC2
So its Christmas Eve and what better way to start than with a one of the all time classics of cinema? You’re right, there isn’t a better way. It has a sled in it as well so that counts as festive.
1010 - Channel 4
If black and white tales of rich folk having a bad time isn’t your thing then get a bit of Babe in your life; everyone wants to see a cute film about a talking pig right? Then have some lunch or watch the toy show if you fancy but make sure you come back for Sister Act to put a good amount of joy in your afternoon
1240 - Film4
Yes, strictly speaking this double-bill starts with a Halloween film but thats just to balance out the festive force of the second film; whilst it isn’t one of the top tier Christmas titles old Dickie Attenborough is easily one of the definitive screen Santas which goes a long way
1325 - BBC2
More classic Hollywood musical action with a proper banger here. How much of a banger? Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas comes from this film buddy, deal with that
1425 - BBC1
Following up The Wrong Trousers was pretty much a fool’s errand because it was essentially perfect. A Close Shave goes bigger with the set pieces and ladles on the charm bringing in Shaun The Sheep and just about pulls it off. There’s no Feathers McGraw level bad guy which is the only mark against it
1455 - BBC1
A couple more bangers for the afternoon; the Spider-Verse films are pretty much the best super hero action films going these days, with a look thats pretty much like nothing else. And then Paddington because everyone loves that bear
1500 - 5 Star
A few random films for you here; Bowie X Jim Henson’s fantasy classic, another run at a Christmas Carol film, a random film about the creation of Christmas Carol and then Ang Lee’s Hulk. What a roller coaster; come for the muppets and stay for the insane Nick Nolte performance as Hulk’s dad
1505 - PBS America
A whole day of Mafia documentaries? Yes mate!
1535 - Channel 4
No messing about from Channel 4 here; if you want Christmas then you’re getting Christmas. You want Snowman? Well here’s a Snowdog as well and an extra cat animation for good measure. And to finish it off here’s Home flipping Alone ready to give you all of the Christmas cheer.
1545 - ITV1
Oh man, what a film here; the movie that did in the Salkinds, gave us an evil John Lithgow trying to take down Father Christmas and put a clearly bored Dudley Moore at the centre of a kids film. Its just such a big daft film with so many “I’m sorry what” moments that you just need to watch it. Its also a great sliding door moment as original this was to be directed by John Carpenter. Can you imagine that? What a film we lost there
1700 - Legend Xtra
Cheery but leaden sci-fi adventure?! One star?! This is an outrage. Biggles The Movie deserves better than that just on its soundtrack alone. The fact that this is on at all is a true Christmas Miracle so get it watched
1900 - BBC4
More Top of The Pops and seemingly more Nick Berry which isn’t something I didn’t think I’d be typing. And then a couple of shows on Ever Decreasing Circles, one of those 80s UK sitcoms about folks living in suburbia only one that doesn’t shy too much away from the darkness that can be there. Its the final episode as well which are always fun to watch
2100 - BBC2
Some true comfort TV with Bob and Paul gong about fishing and having witty back and forth conversations about pretty much anything. And then more ghosts!
2100 - Great Action
What a joy for you here; one of the tip top very best action films of the 90s, a Keanu Reeves classic and then its really bad sequel. Having these back to back is a treat, although how long that feeling of is being a treat lasts into Speed 2 can only be speculated on

2200 - 4 Seven
Yeah, I know we’ve already had this before but this is on actual Christmas Eve when the film is set so you can properly time the start of Christmas Day for when Hans Gruber hits the sidewalk. What a treat!
2240 - BBC4
Its some title to this show, with Old Fashioned clearly doing a whole lot of heavy lifting. Not sure if this is a studio thing or fully filmed like the serial sketches they’d do during their regular shows so this is an adventure for us all
2310 - Legend
A proper double bill to end the day on or to leave on for Santa when he visits. The first is a genuine crime thriller classic, still one of Clooney’s best films with a great cast alongside him. And then a proper daft JCVD film that see’s him teamed up with Denis Rodman. Its not exactly one of Tsui Hark’s best and immediately gets points taken off as it doesn’t have JCVD playing his own twin but its still a guilty pleasure of a film
