The Christmas TV Strategy Guide 2025 #01
20th December 2025

Great Christmas - 0800am
Yes, none of these films are going to be, they’ll be those Hallmark Channel quality fare but if you need something on in the background whilst wrapping stuff or a bit of festive white noise then this should sort you out.
Film4 - 1100am
It’s far from the best Christmas film but Arnie is good value in this tale of a dad trying to find that one toy that everyone else wants. Hilarity doesn’t quite prevail but it’s not a bad time.
That’s TV - 1135
No messing about from That’s TV here, they’re leading with some big hitters here; a three hit combo of White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life and the original Miracle on 34th Street. Its enough to leave you sprawled out on the canvas failing to answer the ten count
5 Action - 1345
According to Apple Music my most listened band of the year is The Bug Club, who are indeed great. This reminds me of one of their songs, one called War Movies which is basically a list of War Movies they like watching. And we have some here! The song only mentions The Dam Busters thought and not the others, plus the last film is a good 90s Clint Eastwood thriller with a great Malkovich bad guy rather than a war movie. Still though, the point stands.
5 - 1810
Now this is what the festive break is about; watching big burly lads lifting things that are clearly too heavy and carrying them about the place. Traditionally its New Year when you have the big final but its on over the entire festive period for all your big burly lad needs.
ITV1 - 1835
Look, I know this is far and I do mean far from the best bond film. Its not even the best of the worst Bond films. But that Bond theme? Defending that is a hill I would and have died on. A banger.
BBC1 - 1900
Strictly has taken some shots over the last couple of years but watching it with my youngest has been an absolute highlight. This year is the last one for Tess and Claudia so it feels like a proper end of an era which is always worth being there for. And then The Wheel because despite how annoying I find McIntyre I do like a quiz
Great TV - 2100
Who doesn’t want to see Costner’s monument to hubris? An overblown big budget warning about what happens when no one says no to star drunk with power. An absolute hoot.
Channel 4 - 2110
The perennial chat that comes around each year of “is Die Hard a Christmas film” is so boring it goes without saying. Just relax and enjoy it! It should really be on Christmas Eve timed so that when Hans its the ground at midnight but I’ll leave that for you to sort out. Oh, and then there’s Apocalypse Now after it for a pretty weird double bill.
BBC4 - 2130
Big load of vintage BBC stuff for you here; Dad’s Army, old impressions and some Parkinson. Peter Cook and Tommy Cooper should be good value on that last one.
Legend - 2325
You know, this might end up being the last truly excellent Bruce Willis film; after this there’s a terrible Die Hard sequel, Glass which is alright and then its into the direct to video period. Its a pretty good film to go out on, a great time travel story with a great cast
