Hello folks!
Now that the US elections are over, we can all log out of Twitter for a few weeks and take a fresh breath of air.
I hope your week was good. I spent my time reading, some coding and a bit of writing. I also finished my article on AWS data transfer cost optimisation for my cost optimisation handbook. Do check here.

๐ Letโs Begin!
This week, I wrote an article which talks about a thought process you can adopt while buying software for your organisation. This is what I have learned over years of making mistakes and learning from my org. This is a bit off-topic from my usual AWS rant.
Highlights of the Article
๐ Nature of Data: Itโs not easy to migrate to a new accounting software or a cloud provider. However, you can relatively easily change your source code hosting service or your product analytics service.
๐ Free Vs Paid: Free isnโt always cheap. Paid isnโt always what you really need.
๐ One Vs Many: Most softwares do one task exceptionally well, but also do a few more things satisfactorily. Use all features from the software you have already purchased instead of buying more software.
๐ Avoid lock-ins: They are designed to make it hard for you to switch. Donโt trade away your flexibility for a few hundred bucks.
๐ Perks of small team: You donโt yet need to worry about hundreds of things that a large company needs to. For example - a 99.99% uptime or compliance. Take advantage of all this while you still can.
