Tarot #0. The Fool🃏

State #0 in the journey of the Tarot Major Arcana. The Fool!

Intro: For the next 22 days of April, for the inaugural Invisible College🌹 newsletter experience, I shall be writing one page a day detailing the journey of the twenty-two Tarot Trumps cards…starting with #0. The Fool and ending with #21. The World. The goal of this procedure is to better solidify the wisdom of the cards in my mind palace (primarily for the sake of my creative writing practice) and to aid any readers with their own esoteric understanding of the Tarot deck. Enjoy🃏

Godspeed,
Dylan🌹

0. The Fool 🃏

A sensitive young man, full of whimsy.

The Fool steps toward the precipice, carrying nothing but pure potential and holy mania. Numbered zero, it is both the beginning and the end, the divine breath (Aleph) that precedes all creation. He represents folly, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment. In other wyrds, LIFE! The Fool, reversed: Negligence, absence, distribution, carelessness, apathy, nullity, vanity. The shades of death.

UPRIGHT: Folly, Mania, Extravagance, Frenzy

REVERSED: Negligence, Carelessness, Apathy, Vanity

The Fool is moment zero on the Tarot Journey. It is right now! The Fool is at the beginning; headline reads: Idiot On Outset of Unknown Quest. Who is he? Who cares, look at him, he’s on a quest!! In truth, The Fool is your essential nature. The Fool is both just setting out, maybe quite foolishly unprepared for the days ahead, and yet full of life, with wonder in his eyes and nothing but open space before him. The Fool matches together the divine limitless with utter mortality, potentiae and foolhardiness and “holy mania” personified and transfigured into being. The Fool is the impulse in the void that says “Yes!” before the mind calculates consequences, fears whisper ardent warnings, and the careful self learns to doubt. Percival from the Grail legend is the perfected crystallization of the heroic Fool and is represented here in this art from the classic Rider Waite deck.

On the journey, the hero sets out on his adventure, leaving behind his ordinary world and enters the extraordinary (where he will soon be made a fool…)

Bottom Line: When you draw the Fool card, you are touching the base of the wellspring.

Tree of Life Path: From Kether to Chokmah -- the ultimate divine emanation into spiraling path of creative earthly potentiality.

A.E. Waite quote: “[The Fool] is a prince of the other world on his travels through this one-all amidst the morning glory, in the keen air. The sun, which shines behind him, knows whence he came, whither he is going, and how he will return by another path after many days. He is the spirit in search of experience…The conventional explanations say that the Fool signifies the flesh, the sensitive life, and by a peculiar satire its subsidiary name was at one time the alchemist, as depicting folly at the most insensate stage.”

Next: #1. The Magician
