Cheers to you

Drawing and painting keep me alive.

WIP- watercolor on wood. 24th st.

How goes it my fellow travelers?

It’s been an up and down week. I started the week attending a book reading for a good friend at a bookstore on Haight Street. It was a beautiful beginning. Gathering to appreciate someone’s creative work with other people in a safe comfortable environment was very healing.

The next day I got word that I did not get a mentorship that I applied for. It was thrilling to see the names go by and everyone cheering on those who made the cut. It felt right to acknowledge the hard work of others.

I was disappointed, of course, but also surprisingly relieved. I realize now how caught up I was in anticipation. I left with the intention to draw and build up the ideas for my stories. I am grateful for this lesson. Now my mind is clear with this news behind me.

I had a few great days in the studio and realize how much I missed it while I was sick. I love to reintroduce myself to my tools and projects with more energy and fresh eyes.

I am finishing a series of small urban paintings and starting some larger nature based ones. This along with the continuation of the ‘Other Ones’ Polaroid series will keep me busy for now.

I am so happy to have my health back and be able to participate fully again. One of the perks to being sidelined is I had a lot of time to observe while resting. My bedroom faces an alley and across that alley is a small children’s school. These tiny humans run, laugh and sing but honestly, they mostly they scream and yell. This time of year they do drills for graduation. They play the ‘pomp and circumstance’ graduation song and practice marching. It is a super heart-string cute inducing event. The way they embrace anticipation so full and hearty is a beautiful way to be. It reminds me to remember the joy.

It’s the time of year to celebrate what we have accomplished so far.

Where ever you are at with what you are doing, it is enough for now. We made it to this day. Celebrate yourself.

Stay well in the meantime,

Zoe
