Hi all, it's been a while. The last newsletter issue was sent out almost two years ago.
Well, Zig SHWOTIME is back and we have a great first episode ahead of us!
Ghostty: A new terminal emulator written in Zig by Mitchell Hashimoto.
Mitchell is going to tell us about his terminal emulator and how Zig has influenced his development experience.
The episode will air on September 5th 2023, at
9:00am PDT / 4:00pm UTC / 6:00pm CEST / 9:30pm IST / 1:00am JST (Wed)
You can find more on zig.show.
I've refreshed the official website a little and added an episode archive to make it easier in the future to catch up. The episode archive also supports RSS.
Here it is: zig.show/episodes.
Near the end of the first season of Zig SHOWTIME I experimented with running the stream on YouTube instead of Twitch. YouTube has better notification support than Twitch (eg you can press "notify me" on scheduled streams) so it seemed a good idea to try it out, but after having gone through it, I believe Twitch is overall the preferable platform for a livestreamed show.
My Twitch channel is still twitch.tv/kristoff_it.
The Discord server is also still the same as before, but I've renamed it to "Software You Can Love" as that's the most important thing I'm running right now.
In any case, like with almost everything I do, there's some overlap and rhyme between Zig SHOWTIME and Software You Can love, so you shouldn't expect the server to be particularly different than before.
You can learn more at softwareyoucan.love.
The YouTube Channel is still youtube.com/c/ZigSHOWTIME, and it also hosts videos from Software You Can Love.
I've killed the Zig SHOWTIME Twitter account. Going forward I will use my personal social media accounts for all Zig SHOWTIME communications.
Here's where you can find me:
I have a secret tool that helps me streamline my use of social media :^)
The Zig SHOWTIME calendar is still active, subscribe to it (iCal) to get new episodes added to your calendar automatically.
I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this feature around or not, so if you're a user of it, do let me know so that I can better evaluate if maintaining it is worth the effort. Either message me on Discord or at loris@zig.show.
The call for speakers for Zig SHOWTIME is open again!
I'm really looking forward to resuming the show.
See you at showtime,
Loris
