Greetings, Wrecking Crew,

I hope this newsletter finds you well.

I’ve been home from Wendo’s Big Adventure, which was NOT wrecked, for a week now.

I was gone for 24 days, which is the longest I’ve been away from home by a long-shot, so I’m still getting acclimated to not being on a train, or a boat, or in a hotel, or in a friend’s house. Every night this week I’ve slept in my own bed, and it’s not moving!

True story: Last Wednesday I awoke from a deep sleep in the middle of the night and it took me a moment to sort out where I was.
Me: Um… Where am I? Well, the bed isn’t moving, so I’m not on the train. I could be on the boat because that movement is often gentle. But this bed is too big for that. It’s also too big to be at my friend’s house. Am I in the hotel? No. I can sort of see the contours of this room and it’s larger than the hotel room… Oh! I’m home!

I don’t think I’ve had this experience of waking up not knowing where I was since I was in my early 20s when I, um, well… I had different sorts of adventures back then.

Anyway, we’ll save those stories for some other time.

Here’s a photograph I took from the train while it sped past the birthplace of my beloved maternal grandmother.

That place is Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This photo is from Friday, August 7. I’d like to go back to Milwaukee to feel what it’s like to walk around a place my Mema and Grammy walked around when Mema was a little girl. I even know how to get there! On the train, of course.

I might tell more travel stories tomorrow on my radio show.
