The Steve Reynolds Program - Issue #2
Still working out the kinks in this newsletter. I want to make it as smooth and breezy as a Wayman Tisdale jam. Ergo (can I be smooth and breezy whilst using the word "ergo"? Or "whilst"?), I'm just gonna hype the stuff I like or the opinions I have. Let's do it.
Kvar Hazardaj Aferoj
1. That phrase up there is Esperanto for "four random things." And nothing is more random to think about in 2018 than Esperanto. The idea of an auxillary language (Esperanto is meant to be spoken between native speakers of two different languages, not meant to be everybody's first language) is charming, Even more charming are bands who sing in Esperanto as part of their idealistic mission.
2. Toast of London is the show I'm watching now. Matt Berry's voice alone can make me laugh, but the whole thing is great. And there's a gag in episode six of season two that reminds me too much of this scene in 1973's O Lucky Man!
3. If Arizona University can afford to pay a basketball recruit 100 grand under the table, the NCAA can afford to legally pay all players.
4. Self-Inflicted Aural Nostalgia. A podcast devoted to Guided by Voices albums seems directly aimed at me and that's all right. Of course as an obsessive, I nitpick some trivia and takes, but that's what makes it fun. I recommend non-obsessives start in two weeks when he does the Propeller album.
What About Me?
I'm on an episode of The Praisedown with Heath and Alex talking Christian metal-rap (!) band Audio Adrenaline. It's fun, just like the other episodes.
March 2nd, I'll be one of the first comics on Headliners Comedy Presents: Black Mike at Rio Bravo Brewing Company in Albuquerque. Someone play ping pong with me after the show.
