SPECIAL Waikawa Beach Access UPDATE
Thursday 10 May 2018
Kia ora koutou,
PUBLIC MEETING (On Track Waikawa) - please attend, details below
I'm afraid things have been too busy for a regular newsletter lately, what with the Horowhenua District Council Long-Term Plan and Growth Strategy submissions. We keep updating the website though, so please do keep an eye on things there.

Now, unfortunately, we have another urgent matter: how pedestrians, horses and vehicles can get on to the beach safely, securely and sustainably —
Ex Tropical Cyclone Gita wiped out the vehicle entrance in February. Now, as a community, we need to talk about how everyone can access the beach.
We're holding a PUBLIC MEETING (On Track Waikawa) in the Manakau Hall on Saturday 19 May 2018 at 2 pm.
The goals of our public meeting are to establish next steps for achieving safe, secure, sustainable access for all to the beach, including pedestrians, horses and vehicles. We also need to have regard to the beach itself, and how we can protect all the good things we have here.
The Horowhenua District Council are willing to help us achieve this goal of access for all, but as a community we need broad agreement on how that can happen. As a Committee, hearing from members of the community, we can say there is very deep feeling about various options, some of which conflict. What is perfect for one may be a disaster for another.
Please spread the word far and wide about the Public Meeting. There are many people who visit our beach regularly, whether it's for dog walking, whitebaiting, fishing or simple recreation.
We also have a mailing list just for On Track Waikawa to disseminate information about beach access and so on: meetings, proposals, discussion, updates. See http://waikawabeach.nz to signup or click the link below:
