Noema (November) 2020 WBRA Newsletter
Kia ora e te whānau. Well, it's the time of year where you mow the grass, turn your back for a minute and it shoots up so you have to mow it again. On the other hand veges are coming up nicely in the garden too.
In case you missed it, there was a General Election. We have a new MP in this area: Terisa Ngobi, for Labour.
Read on in this newsletter for details of the Waikawa Beach Summer Activities, open to all at the beach.
Beware burglars: there have been more reports of thefts and burglaries from this area. Talk to your neighbours and keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Lock up your stuff. If you have concerns call the Police.
Handy phrase for the month: Kua tae mai ngā kūaka. (The godwits have arrived.)
Important note: Village entrance tree removal, 23 and 24 November 2020 may cause delays, so leave extra time for your travel.

Remember: if you're at the beach you're welcome to join in on the Summer activities — you don't have to be a paid up member of the Association. 😎
If you're interested in being on the Committee please let us know. You need to be available for a couple of hours at the beach on the Sunday mornings of Easter, Queen's Birthday, and Labour Weekend. On rare occasions there are additional meetings.
If you have items you want discussed at the AGM then please contact the Secretary immediately: wbra.committee@gmail.com .
Property
The couple of places that were for sale last month have been sold or the signs have simply disappeared. At the moment there's nothing available. Various building works are progressing though.
Recycling station
The Association is working with the Horowhenua District Council to make sure that the Hank Edwards Reserve recycling station that caused so much disruption to neighbours last summer won't be such a problem this summer. At worst it will be in place only for about 3 weeks. We're trying to avoid having it here at all by finding a way to get back to the same kind of recycling truck arrangement we used to have. No final word on that yet.
Toilet block on hold
Before Covid-19 turned the world upside down there were plans being developed to refurbish the Hank Edwards Reserve toilet block. Those plans are now on hold indefinitely as the Horowhenua District Council is taking all opportunities to avoid big Rates increases.
