Racial Restrictive Covenants Project - Thank You
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. We, at the Racial Restrictive Covenants Project would again like to thank you for all the work and time you have spent on Zooniverse. We currently have 560 volunteers and have classified 8,263 documents! Thank you all so much for contributing to this work. We couldn’t do it without you.
Don’t forget that Juneteenth is this coming Sunday, June 19th! Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. While celebrating Juneteenth this would be a great time to volunteer with our project and help us uncover the systemic racism that has limited homeownership and wealth accumulation for Black people and other minorities for generations.
We would also like to remind you to visit our website to sign up for one of our Zooniverse Transcription sessions. These are 45-minute sessions in which we explain and demonstrate how Zooniverse works and allow volunteers to ask any questions they have about the process. Our next scheduled transcription session is June 27th at 12:30 pm. To register and view when our other transcription sessions are, please click this link to be directed to our website. On our website you can also view our list of common restrictions. This can be used while you are volunteering on Zooniverse, allowing you to copy and paste repetitive racial restrictions.
Feel free to spread the word about this volunteer opportunity with your friends, family, and anyone else who may be interested. If you are a student, consider continuing to volunteer with our project over the summer! It is a great way to earn volunteer hours remotely and on your own schedule. Please don't hesitate to contact us at wacovenants@gmail.com if you have any questions, comments, or concerns in the meantime. Thank you again for volunteering with us. We greatly appreciate all the help and community engagement with this important work!
All the best,
Jazzlynn Woods (Research Associate, Racial Restrictive Covenants Project)
