Believe it or not there still exists a bizarro world full of people who think the U.S. economy is doing well.
Stupid people, in other words.
Some of these people are in the White House, but only a few. Certainly not Trump. He short-sold the U.S. economy then put himself in the position to make the decline happen. He might not be around much longer, probably not more than a few years, but he'll die a lot wealthier as a politician than he ever was as a "businessman."
Many are in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street but that's just greed and ignorance talking. These are the Black Friday window jumpers of the 2K-twenties. They weren’t born stupid but they became that way once they got in close proximity to money.
Truth told, there is no legitimate argument for the US having the strongest economy in the world. There's really no argument for it even being a GOOD economy.
There is only the nominal GDP. But that number is meaningless given that so much of it rests on the Mag 7 eye eee:
Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta and… yesh… Tesla.
(The “Mag” in Mag 7 is supposed to stand for “Magnificent” but lately it seems like “Maggot-Infested” hits a little closer to reality).
Tesla is not a real company so it shouldn't be included at all. It's a minor third-tier car manufacturer with rapidly declining sales. It's a bankruptcy waiting to happen.
Nvidia's ridiculous market cap comes down to the AI boom but that's a shell game/ponzi scheme. They're actually a much smaller company than, say, Intel. Intel will still be around in 30 years. Nvidia won't.
Of the remaining 5 companies, 4 are heavily invested in AI. Of those, 3 will survive the bubble (Meta won't make it). So we're left with a heavily devalued Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet forced to scale down and focus on their core services. Apple meanwhile will grow. They are the China of U.S. corporations. They're sitting back watching the competition kill themselves, waiting to come in at the end to sweep up. Big Time Final Boss energy.
But that's only one company. Not nearly enough to keep the U.S. on top of anyone's Power Index.
And I'm not saying that the U.S., as a global power, will disappear. But its days as a hegemon are over. Just like what happened to Greece, Rome, Mongolia, Thee Sublime Ottoman State, Portugal, Netherlands, Great Britain, yadda yadda.
Don’t cry for us, Argentina. It's the natural order of things. Hegemonies come and go. Clearly it's now China's turn up at bat. They are more than ready for it, probably better prepared than any country has ever been for the responsibility and that's because they've been quietly biding their time for the last 77 years. They didn't even have to do anything to get here. No shots were fired. No blows were struck. They just waited for hubris, entitlement, and corruption to do their job. They studied history, in other words.
It’s crazy how much comes down to just understanding classic liberalis. Math, Science, Sociology, Art, Literature, but most importantly, History. It’s almost like all those avocado-toast-coded whooping millennials, wasting their parents’ money on Liberal Arts degrees, were on to something.
