UARC Newsletter March
March has been an exciting month for the University of Aruba Research Center! We now have over 1000 outputs on the Repository, organized another workshop on Open Data (for Open Data Day!), and are planning two more workshops in April. The first April workshop will focus on the now approved Research Guidelines for the University! The second one will be focusing on Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration, with guest speaker Henk Kummeling! We also received permission to place the posters in the Maria Convent building: get in touch to get your research featured on a poster!
University of Aruba Research Guidelines
The “Research Project Guidelines and Procedures" are approved by the Advisory Board and will apply from the 1st of May onward! These Research guidelines aim to standardize the process of managing research projects at the University of Aruba, from idea to data archiving. These procedures ensure consistency, timely communication, and necessary approvals, so that your research project is off to a great start! UARC supports researchers managing their projects smoothly from start to finish. The procedures apply to all staff and should ideally be followed from the project's inception.
We will hold an information session on the 15th of April from 1-2 PM in the MC Chapel where we will provide an overview of the guidelines and their impact, and where you can ask all your questions!
Over 1000 outputs on the University of Aruba Repository!
The University of Aruba Research Center is proud to announce that the University of Aruba’s Repository now has over 1000 outputs! The Repository was launched in September 2024 and has rapidly grown over the past months thanks to the additions of research output from the University of Aruba researchers!
Output number 1000 was uploaded by Hannah Meijer, who presented a poster on Collaborating on public tasks within the Kingdom of the Netherlands during the Dutch Caribbean Research Week in November 2024!

The Board of Trustees of the University of Aruba has given the Research Center the assignment to increase the visibility of the substantial research outputs of the institute. The Repository is one of the ways that we achieve this mission and demonstrate the academic expertise of the University of Aruba.
The Repository also provides access to summaries and translations of research articles, which makes scientific articles easier to read! Examples are research on sustainability (for example, seawater refineries or aloe vera), language, and social work. More summaries and translations are on their way!
Visit the repository and explore the research available!
Wikipedia on Aruba & University of Aruba
The Wikipedia on Aruba project is in full swing! The Wikipedia on Aruba project is dedicated to making knowledge about Aruba freely accessible, inspiring people to share and document Aruba’s history in Papiamento on Wikipedia. The Research Center will work together with the Wikipedia on Aruba project on organizing a workshop for researchers and students in September. If you are interested in contributing to this workshop, or Wikipedia in general, please do reach out to research@ua.aw or contact wikipediaonaruba@wikimedia.nl. You can also follow them on LinkedIn or visit their website for more information.
Recent Research
Anouk Mertens, Maarten Eppinga, Patrick Arens, Tobia de Scisciolo, Nigel John, Salys Sultan, Nadine Buys and Eric Mijts have published an article: The GreenComp Evaluation Roadmap: a roadmap for in-depth holistic evaluation of the integration of the GreenComp framework in higher-education curricula. The article describes the GreenComp Evaluation Roadmap, a three-step tool designed to assess how well the 12 competences for sustainability from the GreenComp framework are integrated into a curriculum. All tools and scripts are open source, making it easy for educators and institutions to apply them in their own contexts. Congratulations to the team!
