The US President May not be Sane

I was working on a different topic but just saw something so alarming I wanted to send it out immediately.

Donald Trump tonight posted a Fox News video of Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, covering Trump announcing new advanced hospitals equipped with medbeds. The clip shows Trump announcing every American will have a card of some sort giving them access to these hospitals and their medbeds. He touts them as capable of “restoring every citizen to full health and strength.” (The above link goes to Bluesky, but I personally confirmed Trump posted it himself on Truth Social.)

Sounds too good to be true, right?

That’s because medbeds do not exist. It’s a right wing conspiracy theory in the long genre of “rich people have access to miracle tech not shared with the rest of us.” These beds, according to the subset of Qanon believers who are into this conspiracy theory, cure literally everything. Have a genetic disease? Not after a medbed visit. Limb amputation? Just grow it back in your medbed.

Trump is a lifelong conspiracy theorist so it would not be surprising to see him embracing something like medbeds. But there’s another problem with the video.

It’s AI generated. It’s 100% AI generated. Trump did not make the announcements in the video. Fox did not cover it. It’s a fake video about a fake technology including a fake announcement from the president.

Trump very often just searches for his name and reposts whatever he finds without reading it. In the past we’ve seen all manner of awful things he’s reposted that are either outright disgusting bigotry or false information. Trump has actually argued in court that things like that cannot be considered his views because he was just reposting them.

I assumed that was the situation here so I went to check.

He’s the original poster of the video.

Someone gave the president a fully AI generated video of the president announcing a miracle panacea. It does not exist and has never said anything in the video in reality.

I’m not sure what the best case scenario here is. He may think medbeds are real and just didn’t care that the video was not. What I find the most alarming though is if he posted the video thinking he actually said these things.

The US president may not be able to discern reality from fiction. I’m not talking about being factually incorrect about something here. I’m talking about actual delusions where he thinks he announced a miracle medical breakthrough when he has not.

We have safeguards against a president who is mentally incapacitated or insane. But there are no scenarios where Republicans would activate those safeguards to remove a delusional Republican president.

Perhaps there’s a different explanation here I’m not considering. And perhaps Karoline Leavitt will invent some rationalization.

But it sure looks like the president is posting fake videos of himself not realizing he didn’t say anything contained in them. And I’m not sure things are any better if he DOES understand the video is fake. If so, the point of posting it would be what exactly?

There are thousands of other awful things going on right now, but Donald Trump is not mentally well. And our media should start acting like it.
