MERP - #charactercreationchallenge

J.R.R. Tolkien was born on January 3rd in 1892, and I always tip a glass of mead to honor him. This year, Middle Earth Role Playing (aka MERP).

Yes, plenty of games have hobbits, dwarves, and elves; orcs, goblins, and wargs; dragons, wraiths, and balrogs. This game, from 1982, was the first with the official license, and very much not D&D. The Iron Crown Enterprises hit and critical hit charts were famous for their depth and detail. Also pictured was Decipher’s game. I have several of the books also, but they are apparently in another castle.

Character creation involves rolling six d100, throwing out all rolls less than 20, and the option of replacing the lowest roll with a 90 (if in your primary statistic). After that, racial background (elf, dwarf, dunedain) and class affect skills learned, with some player choice.

Frôr Longbeard is a dwarven warrior with scouting and smithing skills. Like many warriors, his best skills are in weapons (+45 for 1 handed edged and concussion). He is 4‘2” tall with steely grey eyes and an introspective demeanor. Appearance, a straight percentile roll, ended up as 98 - so he is one handsome dude.

The full characters sheet has a LOT of tiny boxes; happy to scan if you are at all interested.
