31 December 2009 - 80 Books (or thereabout) in 2009
I used WeRead to track books read this year, and here's what I found. Categories courtesy of Powell's; Dewey Decimal because that's what the local library uses.
I read 55 fiction. 22 Science Fiction and Fantasy, 8 Mystery, 3 Graphic Novels, 12 other fiction, and 10 Childrens - a category that includes Treasure Island and some (but not all) of Orson Scott Card's Ender novels.
I read 25 nonfiction. 4 History, 4 Psychology and Sociology, 3 Sports and Fitness, 14 other nonfiction, 1 Biography, and 1 Children's nonfiction.
Per the Dewey Decimal system, all but the biography were from: * 1 - 000 – Computer science, information & general works * 3 - 100 – Philosophy and psychology * 5 - 300 – Social sciences (3 from 30x - Social Sciences) * 1 - 500 – Science and mathematics * 4 - 600 – Technology * 4 - 700 – Arts and recreation (3 from 79x - Recreation and Performing Arts) * 2 - 800 – Literature * 3 - 900 – History, geography, and biography
I didn't read anything from 200 – Religion or 400 – Language.
The cult of the new was strictly observed - 14 from 2009, 12 from 2008, 9 from 2007, 21 from 2000-2006, 5 from the 1990s, 6 from the 1980s, 11 from the rest of the 1900s, and 1 first published in 1882.
On to 2010! Even with a job, I see myself reading at least 50 books. I'll see if I can find something from the Religion and Language category this year. Finally, I will be abandoning "weread" for a home on Goodreads instead. Their interface is better and they have more options.
