31 December 2016 - 120 books in 2016
Does anybody write facebook notes anymore? Does anyone read them? (editor's note - few did, and facebook shuttered notes in 2020)
This year I traveled for work, remodeled the bathroom, and umpired 100 baseball games (at various levels). I also read 120 books. 75 were fiction, of which 21 were series fiction and 4 were anthologies. That leaves 45 non fiction books this year. According to the Dewey Decimal system, my non-fiction reading was from:
- 300 Social Sciences (9)
- 500 Science and Mathematics (7)
- 600 Technology (6)
- 700 Arts and Recreation (13)
- 79x Performing Arts (10)
- 800 Literature (2)
- 900 History and Geography (2)
- Biography (6)
The earliest published book I read this year was The Time Machine by H.G. Wells (1895). The most recently published book for me was the closely related Time Travel: A History by James Gleick (September 2016).
According to goodreads I read 32870 pages in 2016. Lower than previous years, this is an average of 274 pages per book, or 90 pages per day. In 2017, I plan to reduce this even further, reading more things that goodreads doesn’t track (short stories) and listening to more BBC radio plays and podcasts.
(editor's note - I still haven't gotten into podcasts. What am I missing?)
