31 December 2015 - 125 Books read in 2015

In 2015 I went to Europe twice, both times on business. For each of these trips I brought Sherlock Holmes with me, and managed to finish the series - and another 118 books besides. Breaking those down, it was 86 fiction books, of which 42 were series fiction. This year I also tracked audio books, and found that they comprise just under 30% of my total. These were read while walking the dog, commuting to work, and driving across the state to visit friends or relatives.

I read 39 non fiction books this year. According to the Dewey Decimal system, my non-fiction reading was from:

  • 3 - 000 Information & general works
  • 1 - 100 Philosophy and psychology
  • 1 - 200 Religion
  • 4 - 300 Social sciences
  • 0 - 400 Language
  • 5 - 500 Science and mathematics
  • 6 - 600 Technology
  • 7 - 700 Arts and recreation (6 from 79x - Performing Arts)
  • 2 - 800 Literature
  • 3 - 900 History, geography
  • 7 - Biography

The earliest published book I read this year was Sherlock Holmes - A Study in Scarlet (1887). The most recently published book read this year was Goodbye Stranger (August 2015).

Finally, according to goodreads I read 37,636 pages in 2015. That works out to an average of 300 pages per book, and 100 pages per day. Whew!

(editor's note - it stuck around a long time, in fact you can scroll backward and forward, from 2009 up to 2020)
