31 December 2012 - 118 books in 2012
Another year, another 118 books read. That's a lot, but I blame the library for having a contest this summer - every 3 books read were an entry. I didn't win, but I read a lot of books in those three months. Anyhow, I use GoodReads to track my books read, and here's what I found. Categories courtesy of Powell's; Dewey Decimal because that's what the local libraries use.
I read 67 fiction books, of which 20 were series fiction. This year, on average, the series titles scored much higher (4.3) than the non-series (3.7) - but 8 of the 20 were the first book, which is often the best.
I read 48 non fiction. Per the Dewey Decimal system, they were from:
- 000 Computer science, information & general works
- 3 100 Philosophy and psychology
- 2 200 Religion
- 6 300 Social sciences
- 400 Language
- 6 500 Science and mathematics
- 7 600 Technology
- 9 700 Arts and recreation (6 from 79x - Recreation and Performing Arts)
- 2 800 Literature
- 6 900 History, geography
- 7 Biography
The earliest published book this year for me was Frankenstein from Mary Shelley in 1818. The most recently published books read this year were Liar & Spy from Rebecca Stead in August and The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail - But Some Don't from Nate Silver in September.
Finally, according to goodreads I read 32777 pages in 2012. That works out to an average of 277 pages per book, and roughly 90 pages per day. Whew!
