31 December 2010 - 100 books in 2010

100 books! I won't probably reach this plateau again until I retire. I used GoodReads to track books read this year, and here's what I found - in Dewey Decimal because that's what the local library uses.

I read 55 fiction books, of which 18 were series fiction. I read 45 non fiction. Per the Dewey Decimal system, these were from:

  • 1 - 000 – Computer science, information & general works
  • 1 - 100 – Philosophy and psychology
  • 3 - 200 – Religion
  • 5 - 300 – Social sciences (1 from 30x - Social Sciences)
  • 1 - 400 – Language
  • 9 - 500 – Science and mathematics
  • 9 - 600 – Technology
  • 7 - 700 – Arts and recreation (6 from 79x - Recreation and Performing Arts)
  • 3 - 800 – Literature
  • 5 - 900 – History, geography, and biography

Last year, I missed Language and Religion, so this year I made an effort to hit them all. It's a pity that the one Language book I read this year was pretty poor - I'm hoping for better in 2011.

10% were from 2010, nearly 20% from 2009, 20% from 2007-2008, 15% from the rest of this millenium, 10% from the 1990s, 6 from the 1980s, 4 from the 1970s, 3 from the 1960s. The oldest was first "published" in 1390 (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight), the second oldest in 1884 (Flatland)

Finally, according to goodreads I've read 27,332 pages. That works out to an average of 273 pages per book.
