Microsoft Build 2026 opens with agentic AI as the platform thesis
Satya Nadella's keynote today frames Windows as a platform for AI agents, not just applications. Azure AI Foundry goes GA with multi-modal model support and a visual RAG pipeline designer. Foundry Local ships for on-device inference on Windows, macOS, and Linux. First Nvidia-powered Windows PCs announced.
AEC angle:
Foundry Local running inference on-device matters for field teams — jobsite AI that works without a reliable connection. The agent framework also gives contech vendors a standardized way to build agents that span multiple AEC tools.
GitHub Copilot switches to usage-based billing today
Flat-rate plans replaced by token-based AI Credits ($0.01/credit). Code completions stay unlimited; chat and agent workflows now metered. Developer backlash is sharp — over 400 comments and 900 downvotes in the community thread, with some reporting projected cost jumps from $29 to $750/month for heavy agent use.

Google Gemini Spark goes live — persistent 24/7 AI agents for $100/month

AEC angle:
Persistent agents that monitor connected apps around the clock could reshape how PMs track submittals, RFIs, and schedule changes — if the integrations reach AEC platforms. The MCP connector architecture is the same standard Bluebeam and SketchUp just adopted.
AI-and-work conflicts erupt across four jurisdictions simultaneously
Wikipedia editors organizing a strike over Wikimedia layoffs. Amazon employees gamed an internal AI ranking system into uselessness. Chinese courts began enforcing a framework barring AI-justified layoffs. A UK thinktank called for workers to have a real say over AI deployment in their workplaces.
AEC angle:
Construction has the labor shortage working in its favor — AI augments rather than displaces where there aren't enough workers. But the China precedent on AI-justified layoffs is worth tracking; it could influence how firms frame restructurings around new tools.

Revit 2027 exposes a public MCP server; IMAGINiT Clarity 2027 ships MCP connector
Revit 2027 now lets any external AI tool connect to a live model via MCP — natural-language queries, bulk parameter edits, and view captures. Separately, IMAGINiT's Clarity 2027 adds its own MCP connector, letting teams launch Revit tasks from any AI chatbot on any device. Clarity users report saving 200+ hours per project per year. [NEW]
UCL launches ethical AI governance research for UK AEC sector
The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction is running a research project on ethical AI governance in UK AEC practice.
