ALL THESE GREAT ANSWERS... :WOLVES DON'T SLEEP
What’re your highlights of the year so far?
Steev Bond (Vocals) - Highlights of the year so far have all happened very recently. We just played a show with Kill The Lights, being able to play a hometown show to a packed room of people who gave us so much love was amazing alongside playing with guys who have been in bands that we’ve been listening to since we were kids is honestly a bit surreal. We’ve just been told our new single House Of Glass is being played on the BBC introducing rock show on BBC Radio 1 which is mental that we are of a calibre to be featured on such a prestigious show.
What are your goals for the rest of the year?
SB- Our goals for the rest of the year are to push the new EP Fears & Fractures as far as we can and play as many shows as possible all over the country and hopefully further. We’re gearing up for a hometown show on August 31st as main support to Seething Akira and we’re hoping to make that something special.
Which new bands/artists are you into right now?
SB - Internationally: The Gloom In The Corner from Aus, Sailing Before The Wind from Japan & Darko US from the USA. In the UK our mates in 7eventh Sea, Those Once Loyal & The Cartographer are absolute top dudes.
What was the band or artist that got you into music or inspired you to be a musician?
SB - This is one of my core memories. When I was 12/13 ish I was getting into metal and my dad was watching a music channel and the live video for Iron Maiden’s The Trooper was on. Seeing Bruce running around dressed up and waving the Union Jack against Maiden’s massive stage set up just triggered something in my brain of “whatever this is I want to do it” and I've been slowly working towards being that OTT on stage ever since.
AI has become a bone of contention among creators. What’s your view of it?
AI is one of those, people and companies seem very hell-bent on using it as a replacement for near enough everything artistic but not as a tool to make our lives easier. I honestly have no issues with AI being used to speed things up, I have a few vocal plugins that use ‘AI’ to auto EQ and similar which I like using for demoing purposes but I would never rely on it for the finished product as it would never be a replacement for an experienced audio engineer.
How best do you write; in a jam room or a studio?
SB - Personally I can come up with lyrics anywhere but from recording Fears & Fractures I found I work really well in the studio when it's the only thing I am focusing on.
James Stack (Guitar) - I like to start in a jam room to get the basic idea and vibe which I’ll take to the studio and work on it from there and cycle the idea between the two till it locks in.
What was your wildest show so far, and why?
SB - The one that sticks out the most for me was when we were booked to headliner in Leeds a few years ago 2022 I think? The promoter did a runner not long after we started playing cause not enough people came and bought tickets, still makes me wonder why we were booked to headline in a city we’ve never been to before but we move. So as the promoter had vanished and no one was minding the doors, all the students who were on a pub crawl and I mean ALL THE STUDENTS, started coming upstairs. so there were like 5 Ali G’s, a Mario and so on who just appeared and had a great time watching us even though they had no idea what was going on but they hung about after and said they enjoyed us. It was one of the most random shows we’ve ever had.
What inspired the lyrical themes behind your new record?
SB - The core concept behind this Fears & Fractures is our determination and perseverance to keep going as a band cause we’ve been around for quite a while with numerous member changes and setbacks, it honestly felt like we were cursed for such a long time as nothing would ever really stick and it felt like the whole world was against us, it really made us reflect on who we are as people and what we want to be as artists. Alongside that, I tackle a lot of my personal feelings and experiences of the past few years going through heartbreak and a lot of negativity being thrown at me which I refuse to buckle under the weight of.
What’s the story behind the artwork?
SB - We were throwing around a lot of different concepts for how we want the art for this EP to reflect how we feel as a band as this is essentially our rebirth as a band. Dan Bingley our bassist threw out the idea of an ouroboros as it signifies death and rebirth as a never-ending cycle which is quite apt as we the band have gone through so many versions of itself and we refused to stop. Instead of having a snake, we figured we’d have it as a wolf which I attribute to the Norse mythology where Skol the son of the wolf Fenris swallows the sun during Ragnorok the end of the world.
Where is the furthest across the globe you’ve played so far?
: SB - The furthest we have played so far is Brighton it was the longest drive to and from a show we’ve done so far, it was rough on the drive back after playing not gonna lie but we’d do it every time.
