Ellicott City sits at the confluence of three waterways — and that’s exactly why it floods.
The Patapsco River, Tiber Creek, and New Cut Branch all converge near Historic Old Ellicott City. The town was built in a valley for water power — the mills needed it. That same geography that made it a thriving industrial hub in the 1800s is what makes catastrophic flash flooding possible today. The North Tunnel project currently tearing up Lot B is the most significant engineering attempt yet to change that equation.
