1. Algerian PM visits Bamako as Mali ties keep warming

Algeria's Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb arrived in Bamako on 14 September for an official visit, carrying a message from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for junta leader Assimi Goïta and holding talks with Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga. The trip follows months of normalization between the two governments, including restored ambassadors and airspace access since July and Maïga's own visit to Algiers on 24 August.

It also comes days after Bamako hosted the 13th session of the Mali-Algeria Joint Commission on 9-10 September, the first such meeting in nearly a decade, covering trade, security, energy and other areas of cooperation. Malian analyst Birahim Soumaré, a former ambassador to Türkiye, described the commission as marking "a phase of redefinition and relaunch" rather than mere normalization. Whether the PM's visit will produce agreements beyond what the commission already discussed remains unclear.
