A statement from our Board
After their most recent meeting, the Board of the JustSpace Alliance voted to release the following statement on the ongoing genocide and occupation in Palestine, as well as the more recent expansion of Israel's military assault into Lebanon. Please also see the most recent JustSpace Alliance newsletter for educational resources and ways you can take action in solidarity.
We write this statement over a year since the assault on Gaza began and as the state of Israel expands its military campaign into Lebanon. The international community has failed to end the massive onslaught and horrific loss of life in Gaza. We must demand more of our colleagues in the space community.
The JustSpace Alliance is a coalition of people who believe that outer space presents an opportunity to reimagine existing systems and structures through the lens of equity and justice. Our mission is to advocate for a more inclusive and ethical future in space and to harness visions of tomorrow for a more just and equitable world today.
As the board of the JustSpace Alliance we feel morally compelled to speak out against the complicity of the space sector in the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the escalating military aggression in and around Palestine. The space industry has contributed and continues to contribute to the ongoing settler colonial violence being inflicted upon Palestinians through surveillance satellites, missile guidance systems, and other dual use technologies.
The JustSpace Alliance board reiterates the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. We also call for a complete weapons embargo and the use of boycotts, divestments, and sanctions to end the decades long occupation of Palestinians. The space sector must be part of these solutions, rather than continuing to supply weapons systems and military technology to state governments committing atrocities.
We remain committed to our mission and will continue to work to make the world and space as just and equitable as possible.
In solidarity,
The JustSpace Alliance Board
