Are you troubled by strange noises in the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre, or ghost? If the answer is yes, then you should call the professionals! Or just keep reading idk 🤷♀️
As October prepares to softly roll over us like a blanket of warm, cinnamon-scented dough, I'm here to ask you the important shit — "What should you do when you're haunted by an idea that refuses to stay buried?"
Is it an idea that your creative intuition needs you to imbue with life? Or is it nothing more than a notion, hanging around due to unfinished business, like perfectionism, fear, or a literal unfinished business?
Some ideas refuse to die for a reason. So, today I'm stepping into the role of necromancer to guide you through some 'spirit communication' journaling.
By the end of this exercise (or exorcism?), you'll have what you need to release your idea and make peace with its memory or bring it into the realm of the living.
You won't even need a shovel or Ouija board! 😄
Communing with the spirit of an idea 👻
What you'll need:
Your fave pen or pencil
A notebook or journal
A candle to set an introspective mood (if you're feelin' fancy!)
Method:
1) If you're using a candle, light that shit up and enjoy a moment of ambience. Because why the hell not?
2) At the top of your page, write our ultimate question: "What idea keeps haunting me?" You can pluralise it if you suspect you're being hounded by the spirit of more than one unrealised idea.
3) Journal that shit out, pal! Get into it, in juicy detail. What is the idea, and how would it have manifested if it had come to life? If you've got multiple ideas, pick the loudest (you can always repeat the process for other ideas if you've got the mental bandwidth).
4) Now let's interrogate! Make the following subheaders:
"Why does this particular idea refuse to stay buried?"
"What would it take to either properly lay this ghost to rest or finally bring it to life?"
"Is this idea haunting me because it's meant to be written, or because I need to process why it won't work?"
Get into it, honey! And, by the end of your session, you should have a semi-realised project plan for something unthinkably cool or the means to release your idea back into the ether in peace.
If you want to release your idea, you can take your written pages and burn them in a fire-safe container/location using the candle from your ritual. Maybe say a 'lil prayer.
Close your ritual out by enjoying a piece of Halloween chocolate, just for the plot ✌️

🔮 Freelance focus: BDE with The Emperor
