Bristol Libraries Poetry Project
Bristol Libraries is working with local Bristol poet, Ralph Hoyte, to collect poems from the public on the theme of 'Street' to be put in an audio project. Please share this with anyone who you think would be interested.
• Write a poem on the theme of STREET!, your local neighbourhood. (You must live, work or study in Bristol).
• Send both recording and written copy of your poem - no longer than 3-4 minutes - to library.ideas@bristol.gov.uk - start with THE TITLE OF THE POEM followed by YOUR NAME and neighbourhood
• If successful, your poetry will be placed in ‘a soundpool’ right outside your chosen local library for all to hear through an app!
• For Rules and Further Info see our social media post description, check the attached description, or email library.ideas@bristol.gov.uk
• Deadline 15th September
Rules and Further Information:
1. Poems must be on the theme of STREET! and what STREET! means to you and where you live. It’s your street, your locality – write me a poem about life on and around your street.
2. Poems must be recorded - they should not be longer than 3-4 minutes when read. Each recording must start with THE TITLE OF THE POEM followed by YOUR NAME (if someone else reads your poem, follow this also with THEIR NAME), then the actual poem. Poems which don’t do this can’t be accepted.
3. For the first round, deadline for submission is 15th September. Email the recording and written copy to library.ideas@bristol.gov.uk
5. As this is a trial project, we are not able to sound edit your work after you send it in, so please get the best possible recording you can on your phone.
6. The scheme is being rolled out to 12 OF THE 27 Bristol libraries: Avonmouth, Bishopston, Bishopsworth, Central, Clifton, Filwood, Fishponds, Henleaze, Junction 3, Southmead, St George, St Pauls.
8. The soundpools will contain up to 3 poems each: the final decision as to which poems are chosen rests with the lead artist (Ralph Hoyte). Remember – this is an experiment, so don’t be put off if there is an immense response and your poem doesn’t get in on this round!
9. Each series of up to 3 poems will be posted for 3 weeks; then another series will be put up.
