The Bi Pod Bulletin - April 2024
Happy April!
This month, Evan has some book recs for you!
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
Lovely and perfectly short. The audiobook is only 4 hours long, and it was perfect for listening to curled up on the couch on a rainy day.
I have not historically considered myself a “cozy” reader but this book was so cozy that I might have to explore that more.
The Scapegracers series by H.A. Clarke
I read the first book in this trilogy awhile ago but picked up book 2 (The Scratch Daughters) this year in preparation for the release of the final book. The writing style is a little chaotic (in a way that I think is intentional, not sloppy) so it may not be for everyone, but if a queer witch grrl gang fighting the patriarchy (often in a literal sense) sounds like your thing you should definitely give it a try.
Godly Heathens & Merciless Saviors by H.E. Edgmon
This duology is INTENSE. It is darker than I usually go for (with recurring body horror elements), but I still enjoyed it. If you like books with more of an edge and want a narrative that deals with trauma and coping and perhaps failing to cope, and which doesn’t ask anyone to be “a good person” but lets them find some happiness anyway, you might be into it.
In the first chapter there’s a scene where someone is basically being flayed alive. It’s not all like that, but it’s not not all like that, so if you pick it up and can’t hang these are not the books for you.
This is Me Trying by Racquel Marie
I am in love with this book. I love everything about it. I haven’t read any of Racquel Marie’s other books but I hope that they’re as good as this one because I WANT MORE.
Santiago finding everyone hot is the bisexual representation we deserve.
The Podcast
This month, we finally release our much anticipated Barbie episode! We (correctly) think that the Barbie movie is a film about gender and gender performance. We spend a lot more time talking about Ken than Barbie, but if you listen to the episode you’ll understand why.
We also released a Patreon-exclusive episode about Big Gay Friendship, which is sort of a companion piece to our Friendshuationships episode. You can find a preview of the episode for free on your favorite podcast player, and you can access the full episode on Patreon (or on any podcast player through your patron-only RSS feed).
In Other News
You can find exclusive episodes, playlists, and other goodies on our Patreon! We are an ad-free, community supported podcast, and our patrons make this show possible. We use an accessibility pricing model, and subscription options start at $2 per month.
Christina’s book is out now! If you want a copy, you can buy it here.
