Summer Solstice 'Shoulds' and a Special Resilience Toolkit Programme for Gaza
brought to you by Tender Being with Harriet
Dear ,

In this (only slightly late) newsletter you'll find:
  • Summer Solstice Reflections & Invitation
  • Ways to work with me in the coming months - including a special Resilience Toolkit Programme fundraiser for All Our Relations
  • Some recommendations from me of stuff I've been learning from, enjoying and some actions you can take

Summer Solstice and all the 'Shoulds'

Only slightly late with this festival's newsletter! Sending you Summer Solstice Blessings.

I seem to be being drawn back again and again to this theme of imperfection. Perhaps it's the increased demands of parenting. The limited time and energy of doing this with a chronic illness. The witnessing of a polycrisis and genocide... but there doesn't seem to be a desire for perfections anymore.

I want to learn where my energy, resources and love are going to have the most impact. I want to learn ways to give these without burning out - and for me a big part of this is letting go of thinking there is a 'right' way.

Letting go of the 'shoulds'. I have often felt that Summer was a time of 'shoulds'. Particularly being someone who grew up in the UK, there is such pressure around 'doing something' when the weather is 'nice'. (personally I would love some cooler temperatures right now, and am struggling with the climate grief and overwhelm that comes with these increasing heat waves.)

In our most recent Community Connection Session (part of the Community Membership, with sessions on the second Saturday of the month), we explored our 'shoulds'. This lead to a very insightful and nourishing conversation, so I wanted to share the same practice with you.

The Summer Solstice Practice invitation is to engage in
The Should List

This is quite a simple practice. Check to see if it's feeling supportive, and if you feel overwhelmed then just step away and let it go. We are trying to access some curiosity with this, taking an explorative approach.

Firstly take a couple of minutes (we took three) to write down alllll the shoulds you want to write up. Don't overthink it, just let all the shoulds out on the page.

Next, take a moment. Take a breath. And invite a beginner's mind. Try looking at these with fresh eyes and curiosity. What do you notice? Any themes / patterns / anything standing out to you?

Then here are some prompts to go back through your list and use any of these that feel supportive.

Whose voice is this?
Is this in line with my values
Is this something I can let go?
Is this a should or a could?
Are there conditions when this might be appropriate?

What does your list look like now? How do you feel about it? I'd love to hear how you get on with this - you can reply to this email, or come over to the Community Space to get involved!

If you want to connect with a group of us to mark the next Celtic Wheel Festival, you can join us on the Community Membership (next Festival will be Lammas in August).

I shared Summer Solstice reflections on the podcast and I'd love to hear your responses to the prompts and/or to what I've shared in the comments - come on over to Substack.

Here are the ways you can work with me now or in the coming months:

🌿 Resilience Toolkit for Parents & Carers - Gaza Fundraiser JULY

I am running a special four session programme of the Resilience Toolkit specifically for supporting parents / carers of little ones. Offering a space to connect with tools, self awareness and community to support you in navigating parenting in the polycrisis.

100% of the money will be going to 'All Our Relations' - a Mutual Aid project that supports 20 families based in Gaza.

Find out more here - if you'd like to join then let me know, or if you know someone who would benefit from this kind of support then please do share widely - I'd love to fill this group and raise as much as we can.

🌿 Community Membership on Substack

The Membership is available on a 'pay what you can' basis, so whatever your budget you can join us!

Inside you'll find:
  • All Celtic Wheel Events
  • A Monthly Home Practice Invitation, as well as the opportunity to connect and discuss with me and others about what you notice, any questions or insights in a private chat space.
  • Monthly drop-in Community Connection Sessions happening on the second Saturday of every month, where we can connect live about the previous month's home practice (as well as anything else that has been coming up). I will guide a session with invitations and plenty of space for discussion and exploration as a group.
If you'd like to join us, we'd love to welcome you into the community - any questions you can simply reply to this email and get in touch.

🌿 Tender Little Beings

Tender Little Beings (or TLB as no one is calling it...) is now LIVE! You can check some of this out on my instagram. It's still a little sparse as I'm just getting going, but I'm incredibly excited to start applying some of this stuff and my sleep and COSP qualifications to support families.

I have space for a few sleep clients - if you or someone you know would like support with navigating baby / toddler / children's sleep then do get in touch.

I am also creating a special offering for anyone expecting a baby who would like to learn about newborn sleep, attachment and coregulation - I am offering a few spaces for people to receive this for free in return for feedback to help me make this as supportive as possible. If you'd like to learn more then please do get in touch.

If you'd like to get support or you know someone who does then please do get in touch.

My Recommendations

These aren't intended as a reading / to do list - just a little insight into the stuff I'm exploring and an invitation to join me if any of it peaks your interest!

Here are my recommendations for this newsletter:

🎨 Art - I would be here if I could
I went to visit one of the site of this powerful and important Art project while it was in Bristol and I'd highly recommend learning about the project and visiting on one of it's stops if that's accessible to you.

📺 TV - I Kissed a Boy, BBC Iplayer
Dannii Minogue hosts this dating programme, that offers plenty of drama but mainly some really lovely heartwarming moments.
