Journeying into Spring, planting seeds for Beltane, and a bit about my garden!
brought to you by Kindred Soil
Dear ,

Welcome to April's newsletter! I'm so pleased to connect with you again.

In this newsletter you'll find:
  • Seasonal Reflections from a reluctant spring and some Beltane inspired journaling prompts.
  • New offerings - Beltane Celtic Wheel Early Access and information about the Self-Paced version I am working on
  • Some bits about my new garden - my hopes to transform it into a little nature spot, with crowd-sourced resources and accounts to follow for gardening inspiration!
A Reluctant Spring and Some Prompts...

It has felt like a very reluctant or indecisive start to Spring where I am this year... we've had snow, rain, sunshine - sometimes all in one day!

I shared a few weeks ago about a discussion that we had at a workshop I was attending about seasonal 'Ecosomatics' (an emerging field of combining nature connection and somatics - an area I am very passionate about as you might imagine!) about how the natural seasons and calendar are being disrupted by climate change. They are less defined and less predictable, and that we could be experiencing this mirrored internally in some ways, as well as a sense of grief, anger, fear around the climate crisis.

I have definitely been feeling some of this uncertainty mirrored in my internal landscape. This is in part due to lots of life changes like moving across the country! We have had a couple of weeks of heavy and pretty consistent rain here, and I have noticed some feeling of frustration and a bit of gloom creeping in... but I also had a beautiful moment a few days ago of sitting inside next to the window, listening to the heavy drops of rain landing outside - I felt a sense of calm and also a moment of acknowledging that perhaps the rain was what the land needs right now. It has also made me feel very grateful for the days of sunshine that we have had yesterday and today.

At the end of this month we will reach Beltane (details of the next online event listed below!) This is the midpoint between spring and summer. And now that it feels like perhaps we are tipping more solidly into spring (although who knows..!) it feels like we can start to embrace this time for inspiration and growth.

My invitation to you for this month...

Should you choose to accept it... Is to start opening up more to this time of growing light and inspiration, and taking advantage of the fertile grounds to plant the seeds for the future.

Here are some journal/reflection prompts to support you to start exploring:

The prompts are:

🌱 What seeds or intentions do you want to plant for the coming season?
🌱 What would you like to harvest in the Autumn?
🌱 Where do you want to give space for growth?
New Online Offerings

Beltane Celtic Wheel Event
Sunday 30th April, 12-1.30pm UK time
Translating as 'big fire', Beltane is a time for feeling inspired, exploring what lights us up and finding gentle connection.
Early Access for tickets here - these will go on sale to all from early next week

Please note there are no circles happening currently due to my capacity, as I will be running the Spring Circle Journey from April til June - which amazingly has sold out! For anyone who was keen to join but didn't get a chance to please know that I very much plan to run more of the longer group programmes in the future.

To be released soon...

Self-Paced Celtic Wheel - Beltane
I am working on creating a self-paced format for the Celtic Wheel events, to mean that they are more accessible to all - available to access any time and to pause / pace as you need to and revisit as you want to. This is a format that I am still exploring, trying to offer the Celtic Wheel workshops in this way. I am hoping that I will be able to create one for the upcoming Beltane, but as we know - life, like the seasons, can be unpredictable! I will keep you all updated.

Welcome to my Garden!

I want to preface this by being clear that I do not have gardening skills...  I think sometimes people think that because of my work that I would have green fingers, but sadly not - if anything I have an impressive record of failing to manage the care of houseplants... (even succulents!)

HOWEVER! It is never too late to try to learn... and now that we have our own little patch to play with, I am excited to start trying to transform our space into a more bird/ bee/ wildlife friendly space, and a 'sit spot' for me!

We urgently need to put up a fence at the back, as Meli (our dog) has already enjoyed escaping along what is the old 'night soil passage' - which now seems to be the 'fox soil passage'... 💩

I can't do a lot of the manual work myself, and we don't have a big budget, so will be relying on kind family members to help out (as well as some donations of plants to start us off!)

I recently asked on instagram for some recommendations of resources and accounts for trying to create a nature-friendly garden - if anyone is interested in these I have saved them on a highlight on my personal instagram page 😊

I've listed a few highlights below:
🌱 'Help Wildlife from Home' from Ulster Wildlife (online factsheet)
🌱 'Amy's wildlife garden' on instagram (social media account)
🌱 'Urban Wildlife Garden' by Emma Hardy (Book)

Do you have tips about rewilding small green spaces? Or do you want to learn along with me? I'll try to keep you updated oh here and instagram with the small progress we make. Adding a little wildness bit by bit!
Some signs of rewilding through neglect of some weeds emerging in the grass! And the buds appearing on our pear tree that we have inherited - which I am very excited about!! I'll share updates of when it hopefully comes into bloom.
