Getting Into Sonnets
Hey! It's been a while, life kinda ran away from me a bit! But in any case, we out here and I have some new poetry that I've only performed twice and not published anywhere - but more on that later! First, it's media round-up time!
Media Round-Up
Love Me Forever [2022] - Pinkshift - BURN THE WITCH is easily one of the best songs I've listened to all year. A brilliant album from one of my favourite emerging bands - also go see them live, the stage presence is INCREDIBLE
The Hum Goes on Forever [2022] - The Wonder Years - This album has already become an essential part of me. Like fuck there is just a deep power to the vulnerability about the depths of emotion here. I also just more generally love The Wonder Years because they feel like they're not trapped in the noughties like a lot of other pop punk bands, developing over time both musically and emotionally. The shorter version of this is that THGF does what all those dad-core video games from a few years ago thought they were doing!
Ganja and Hess [1973] - You'll get more writing on this soon, but I don't know why anyone bothered trying to make a film with hot vampires in the fifty years after when this one exists!!!!!

Okay so in a slightly unlikely turn of events I've been getting into sonnets! I am not typically one for strict forms, less because I don't think they produce good poetry and more because it's just not how my brain typically works. HOWEVER I've started working on this crown of thorns x blazon about writing love letters to a Black Future and I don't know where this will eventually end up but here's what I've got so far:
1
Heavy hands curl around the
Handle of her familiar friend,
A partnership of passion,
Beautiful symbiosis
Can be found in this duo,
Blood and steel and oil and fire
And will and won't and new and old
A beautiful destruction.
Don't let the past choke what's to come,
His mother and her hammer said,
And so he stroked the fertile soil,
The space that she had left for him,
In goes the seed, now
Time to watch it grow.
2Oh love of mine what here do you desire?
Beauty of this here moon or of the stars?
What is enough for your burning fire?
Bright and bold even the ash alarms.
Oh love of mine I feel our flesh unfold,
And in the shedding we are made anew,
Clay idols that are ours alone to mould,
Something to dream of when the day is through.
Oh love of mine with shackles truly broken,
I feel your warm breath on my yearning neck,
Something in me has finally spoken,
It needs you down to every little speck,
Oh love of mine oh mine of love come soon,
My lips can't wait for our flowers to bloom.

This was their favourite patch to run,
Trees curl to make a floating shade
Hidden from a menacing sun,
The saplings of the new age played
Leaves mingle with the afro coils,
An entanglement of tinsel,
Built on the grave of deified Oil,
Her chassis now smothered by Rust
Who won? Who lost? It matters not,
They ended at the thickest tree,
Grabbed on a branch on edge of rot,
Broke it together easily
Sap rained upon their weary heads,
Anointing
