For the past 8 weeks, I have been dedicated to active, daily, engagement in my coaching, liberation, and education work and communities. Finally, after a Summer of building connections, and strengthening my values, it is time for me to take some much-deserved time off to REST! This next week of August 31st - September 4th, Taylor Life Coaching will be closed, and I will be unreachable via email, until my return. Any community members with an active coaching package on the calendar/upcoming, please check your email, as you have been notified of my time off and given specific instructions for personalized support during my absence from office.
Reframing Rest for Yourself
I hope that you, especially my fellow Black community members, hear me when I project Tricia Hersey’s message that;
“Rest is Resistance” (2024)
Rest is restorative. It provides us haven from the push of capitalism, and the draw of productivity. When we rest, we allow our minds to take up their natural patterns of thinking, uninhibited by the daily pressures of societal expectation. Rest allows us to keep going, and fighting the good fight, by giving us perspective away from the front lines. When we delay, reject, or excuse opportunities for rest, we reject our very own liberation from oppression; from draining our life force for the sole purpose of feeling adequate as a cog in a capitalist, White supremacist, machine.
This week, take some reprieve for yourself. Maybe you cannot take time off from work and responsibility, but you can engage with Tricia Hersey’s book or other writings and resources (found here: http://www.triciahersey.com/about.html). Maybe you find yourself unable to engage in any additional restful behaviors, but are able to be more mindful in protecting the time that you do have to rest. This is a critical part of liberation and self-growth work, too. If we do not rest and restore, we will not be able to maintain our motivation and metabolism for long.
Rest up, reflect, take action towards change.
