TGT - 15th October 2026 - FM-2030
FM-2030 (born Fereydoon M. Esfandiary) lived an utterly fascinating life. Living in at least 20 countries, he spoke 5 languages and represented his father’s nation Iran at the 1948 Olympics in both basketball and wrestling.
He wrote fiction and non-fiction and changed his name to FM-2030 in 1970, believing essentially that names held too much baggage of the past and humans were constantly changing, developing and improving - and his new name represented his desire and belief that he would live to 100 and see 2030.
As well as believing names were outdated, he thought the same of national borders and was a vocal critic of the concept of nationalism.
Whilst technology was not able to extend his life to 100, he made plans to have his body frozen upon his death and his body is still in a cryochamber in Arizona; so maybe one day he’ll achieve his wish.
