Speedway is undoubtedly exciting. Watching powerful motorbikes race without brakes cannot help but be exhilarating.

This story of Wembley stadium, more commonly associated with football and occasionally rugby league or concerts, hosting the first ever Speedway World Championship is an interesting historical story.

But when combined with the drop off in crowds and compared to the 6500 capacity of the modern British Speedway National Stadium (in Manchester), there’s an interesting discussion of how and why a sport can fall off a national radar.
