Highlight Sample #4 - St Kilda's Mailboat
Hi,
I was 15 when I went camping and hiking with my Venture Scout Unit in The Isle of Skye. During that trip we visited Dunvegan Castle and in its small museum I saw a St Kildan mailboat. I read how this tiny object, flung hopefully into the sea had saved an island community from starvation.
It was the start of a lifetime fascination with remote island communities and St Kilda, specifically. I’ve read and recommended Tom Steel’s “Life and Death of St Kilda” several times over the years
I’m sure mine is not the only imagination ripe for activation by the story of St Kilda; hopefully this TGT found some more. Definitely one to bring back again for a new audience in the next year or two.
