A New Journey--The Suburban Mountaineer

Hello from Peaklessburg.

Yes, I am alive and want you to know I am starting a new project. Don’t worry, I am not covering comp climbing or focusing on Mount Everest. I’m not paying a guide to take me up anything either. (I still believe I can get up to the top if I wanted, and I know that journey would be much higher quality.) What I am doing is The Suburban Mountaineer in reverse.

Tell me, Andrew, what is that heck supposed to mean?

Well, I started the blog looking to escape my complicated life and find balance and I escaped through the act of reading and writing. It was wonderful. It brought me joy. But I recently realized that what I was looking for the whole time was the quiet the noise and find a better way to live.

So I am writing about life through that prism, which provides a pretty broad view and includes, from my perspective, at least, mountains and its characters. I am writing for readers, probably like you, that want a balanced and grounded life that’s lighter, not louder. We want to cut through the noise and find what’s built to last. And, like most climbers, I keep coming back to the idea that, although life is hard, it's up to us to make happiness.

So I will be contributing on Medium and you can read my first post here or see my profile here.

What I am really saying, is I liked writing for you before. If you found anything I wrote today remotely interesting, feel free to follow my stories on Medium. Or don’t. It really doesn’t matter, since I’ll be writing anyway. It’s cathartic, enjoyable especially in the morning with French press. Do you you know what I mean?

So follow me, or don’t. It’s really okay. Life is complicated and hectic. I don’t think I can help slow it down, but maybe I can help look at it differently and find some lagom, if that’s what you’re seeking.

Be well.

Andrew
