9/23/2023 Democratic Women of NC Convention
The Democratic Women of North Carolina held their annual conference on September 22nd - 24th in Charlotte, NC.
The conference was well attended by women representing every region of the state. It was a great introduction to the organization for new members and a shot in the arm for everyone to take action on the important mission for election year 2024.
We heard a passionate address from Cheri Beasley. The Young Democrats spoke of their plans for engaging young people across the state. Also, the 2024 statewide political candidates were available to answer questions. Two informative breakout sessions highlighted the pending legislation that will affect voter access and fair elections.
The evening was given to celebrating Stars - volunteers whose actions have furthered the work of the Democratic Women of NC, their accomplishments were impressive and numerous. It is clear this group is a powerful engine for Democratic values.
The Democratic Women of NC elected new officers for 2023-2024: President: Paula Shelton (Moore County), 1st Vice-President: Cramer Vaughan (New Hanover County), 2nd Vice-President: Vickie Zangwill (Carteret County), 3rd Vice-President: Allison Allen (Mecklenburg County), Secretary: Pam Genant (Burke County), and Treasurer: Denise Castleberry Hall (Johnston County).

11/5/2023 "Walk Around Stanly County" Will Gather
Please join Lydia Light for our next "Walk Around Stanly County" on Sunday, November 5th at 3:00 p.m.
For November, we will be exploring the municipality of Badin, NC. We will be walking the Three Rivers Trail in Morrow Mountain State Park and hopefully the autumn foliage will be in peak form! We will spend some time before the walk learning about Badin's history and what makes this municipality unique today.
As we walk, we invite you all to engage in stimulating conversation while building community and providing space for sharing diverse viewpoints on some of societies' most pressing issues. All are welcome and we encourage you to invite friends from all areas of the political spectrum who are interested in respectful discourse.
We will meet at the Three Rivers Trailhead in the river parking area at 3:00 p.m. Take the main park road towards the river parking area and then look for the trailhead on the forest side of the parking lot. The trail will take us past the confluence of the Yadkin, Pee Dee, and Uwharrie Rivers. This loop trail is only 0.8 miles long and is described as an "easy" trail with only a 52 foot gain in elevation - for those of you who want to join, but would like a little more than this, Lydia will happily join you for an extra loop.
This outreach program is supported by the Democratic Women of Stanly County.
