CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT

CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT... This month we're featuring Stephen Gannon who made Mjolnir!

Mjolnir detail

He says: "It’s made from over 20 pieces of stainless steel, tig welded together, and then meticulously ground and sanded. The Celtic design and runes are electro etched. Most of the plate is 1/8” stainless, and the end pieces are 1/4”. I used extruded aluminum on the handle (over the steel pipe)"

DID YOU KNOW?

DID YOU KNOW...? ...that metals get stronger as the size of their grains gets smaller? But only to a point!

grain boundary

If the grains are smaller than 10 nanometers, they are thought to slip past each other like sand in a dune, weakening the metal. But now, scientists have discovered that under certain conditions, a metal's strength can continue to increase at even smaller grain sizes - down to 3 nanometers. This gives us a new way to think about strengthening metals - by engineering their grain surfaces to suppress grain sliding. Learn more in the full article. divider.png
