CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT
This month we’re featuring drum head tensioners made by customer Don Lordo:
He says:
“Drum head tensioners are used to apply tension to the drum head hoop which stretches the drum head to produce the sound the musician requires. I designed these tensioners for custom snare drums which are made from segmented solid hardwoods. The tensioner style is unique as I have not seen this or a similar style used on snare drums.
“The tensioner body is made from either 3/4" round or 3/4" hex 6061 aluminum bar stock dependent upon the desired design. The drilled and taped connecting rod is made from 3/8" round 2024 aluminum bar stock.
“Attached are two close up photos showing one of the designs made from the 3/4" 6061 hex bar stock. The snare drum is made from solid cherry wood showing a different body design made from 3/4" 6061 round bar stock. The hex bar tensioner has a satin brush finish and the tensioner on the cherry drum is bright polished, dependent upon the desired appearance. I perform all of the metal and wood work in my home shop using both wood and metal working machines and no need to mention, a lot of hand work.”
