CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT

This month we’re featuring a project by Scott Douglas, who used the aluminum he got from Speedy to make the shelves for these two diecast display cases.

A display case with aluminum shelves containing numerous diecast vehicles. The background is a painting.

He says: “I used 1/8” x 2.5” aluminum from Speedy Metals to create shelves for two diecast display cases. One is 18”x24” has a speed limit sign background and the other is 24”x36” has an original painting as the background. The remainder of the cases are wood and glass, but the aluminum is a good way to get a strong shelf with a thin profile that didn’t need to be painted.”

DID YOU KNOW…?

…that researchers have developed a coating that makes iron almost completely resistant to rust?

Two discs of iron. On the left is the iron with the dual coating, and it is a silvery gray color. On the right is bare iron, and it is the orangey brown color of rust.
Comparison of iron with and without the new coating.

Researchers have developed a two-layer coating that gives iron 99.6% resistance to corrosion. The thin primer layer followed by a durable polymer layer can even hold up in harsh conditions like prolonged exposure to saltwater.
