Did You Know...? ...that researchers have developed a new, more efficient technique for sustainable metal recycling?

Recycling metals, especially from electronics, can be costly, energy-intensive, and produce large amounts of toxic waste. However, researchers at Rice University have developed a new technique that doesn't require acid, water, or other solvents, AND achieves a purity of over 95% and yield of 85%. It's called flash Joule heating (FJH) and it "involves passing an electric current through a material to rapidly heat it to extremely high temperatures, transforming it into different substances." The team has successfully used it on a variety of materials, including tantalum, indium, and gallium, and they hope to try it soon on lithium. Learn more in the full article here.
