CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT
Timothy Nustad is the coach of the GEarheads Robotics Team, and submitted the team's robot for the 2023-24 season to our Spotlight contest. He says:
"Based in Brookfield, the team is composed of 15 high school students who design, fabricate, and program a robot to complete each year. We have a mission of building highly competitive robots, and also to grow and share technical skills with other students. This season the team has focused on advancing our robot design skills, building out fabrication skills like CNC machining, and growing those skills with other teams."
"FIRST Robotics is an organization that is designed to grow Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills in students and the community. This world wide organization is well represented in Wisconsin with tremendous growth in our state and hundreds of teams participating in robot competitions in three different divisions. The GEarheads robotics team is proud to be one of those teams, and we are headed to compete and represent Wisconsin in the Worlds Championships this spring in Houston Texas."
"We are lucky to have a number of local sponsors, and Speedy Metals has been a fantastic local partner for materials for our robot build and machine builds."
"Some highlights our 2023 -2024 Season:
- Stepping up our CNC capability, the team has built a brand new “Print NC” CNC mill from the ground up with a steel for the machine and the machine table coming from Speedy Metals.
- Our robot this season is designed on CAD and fabricated from that computer model primarily out of aluminum components with material from Speedy Metals. The robot currently holds the State Record in Wisconsin for the highest competition score, and is #9 in the world headed into the World Championships.
- We have expanded our mission to teach other teams CNC and fabrication skills. The team is one of the founding members of the Wisconsin FIRST Robotics Production Hub, helping build robot components for other teams. We are also sponsoring CNC machine builds with two other Wisconsin robotics teams this year, helping new teams build their own CNC and learn how to use them."
