Simuka Africa Team Briefing: Oct. 2, 2026

Hello, All:

Welcome to the first SAYA Career Development Briefing of Q4 2026. During the application period, SimukaAfrica.org received well over 400 applications for volunteer service. We are truly honored to close out the year with this remarkable team of international professionals!

Please note the following:

  • Be advised: This is a Humanitarian Crisis Assignment. Due to our SDG 2: Zero Hunger focus in Zimbabwe for Q4 and 34 Gallery’s suicide prevention mission, notifications of loss of life may occur on this assignment.

  • Simuka Africa & The 34 Gallery are politically neutral. Our international staff and artists represent 35 countries. Therefore, all volunteer submissions must reside within the international perimeters of the SDG Agenda.

  • The establishment of a self-care routine is also a requirement of our program. To effectively advocate for SDG 3.4 mental health, we must lead by example.

  • We ask for patience with our response times. Our teams work across several time zones, which means crisis situations often impact our operations without warning.

Food For Thought

  • Self-care, I: “ Why rest is a right, not a ‘luxury” — Jotina Buck, TEDxThird Ward

In closing, more than 90% of the professionals volunteering with us over the last 18 months have been in some form of career or school burnout. We shifted our program to creatively open assignments due to this reality.

Therefore, we encourage you to use your time with us during Q4 to transform burnout into recovery, the work grind into work flow, and a rigid schedule into one that breathes. Doing so is the key to versatility in unstable times.

If you need extra support for creativity or connection, our organization provides the following outlets:

  • 34 Gallery Art Therapy Open Calls are provided on a monthly basis with themes to address specific mental health conditions. We encourage you to use these themes as part of your self-care routine and/or for assignments.

  • HeyPeers: The 34 Gallery hosts Creative Career Focus and Art Therapy Groups for peer support. Additional groups are provided by other organizations on the platform to assist you in your mental health journey.

  • Webbie Social: This growing virtual art community features Webbie Academy Mental Health Courses and a vibrant selection of Open Calls to inspire you to create every month. Use code 34Gallery for a discount off a Webbie+ subscription.

  • Sharewell: We are embarking on a partnership with this peer support group platform for the creatives and professionals volunteering with us. More details soon.

This weekend, contemplate why your life is worth living!

— The Simuka Africa Team ❤

May hope, peace & unity always be with you.
