Hello,

Every week or so I like to keep you up to date on the development of ShortCode. This last little while has seen a flurry of new features being added to the upcoming update. Stay tuned for that in a coming days.

The main two features are the new popup snippet search and of course the ability to backup your snippets locally and sync them to iCloud.

SEARCH POPUP

Introducing the snippet search box. You can launch it with a keyboard shortcut from any app, and then just start typing the name of your snippet. The search is smart so it should find what you want. When the results start appearing you can execute the snippet you want with CMD+1 (or CMD+2 if it’s the second result, CMD+3 if it’s the third … and so on). In my experience this keyboard-only utility is super fluid and very fast once you get used to it. I can’t wait for you to try.

NEW BACKUP SYSTEM

A hugely important feature. You can now go into Settings and create local backups. Should anything go wrong in the future and the ShortCode database corrupts on your computer you can always reimport your snippets and get everything back. I’d recommend performing a backup before any updates (this is Beta software after all!). Also, if you are signed into your Mac with your Apple ID and use iCloud there is a tentative backup system there. You don’t need to do anything except enable it in Settings and then restart Shortcode for the change to take effect.
