Reading Roundup: The 32nd week of 2025
Tackling house renovations and powering through notable reads by Whates and Asimov this week!
Another weird week. we're still doing house renovations, so I've moved from writing about complex HTML concepts to tearing out the fireplace. Nothing overly special this time, although Ian Whates is one to watch.
4 stars to The Smallest Of Things, by Ian Whates
Book Description:
" There are many Londons. From pomp to sleaze, from sophistication to dark corruption, Chris knows them all. A fixer with a particular set of skills, he can step between realities, piercing the thin veils that separate one London from another to find objects or locate people that have fallen between the cracks. When a close friend, Claire, comes to him fearing for her life he is forced to use his abilities as never before, fleeing with her through a series of ever stranger Londons, trying to keep one step ahead of the men who murdered her boyfriend and are now hunting her. At some point, Chris hopes that he and Claire can pause long enough to figure out why these mysterious figures from another London want her dead, but right now they’re too busy simply trying to stay alive." My Thoughts: " Short and sharp, I really enjoyed most of this. Slightly frustrating that the ending was presaged by technology we had no idea of, but a fast-paced and clever story nonetheless."
This Book: has 87 pages and a community rating of 3.64.
3 stars to Azazel, by Isaac Asimov
My Thoughts:
" I think I've only come across 2 of these before, so it was nice to read more of them. Not my favourite of Asimov's works, but certainly not badly written. "
This Book: has 253 pages, a community rating of 3.74 and was first published in 1988.
Things not on Goodreads or reread
- Timely Errors, by Worfe. A short Harry Potter fanfic.
- Quantum Night, by Robert J Sawyer. Not the first time I've reread.
- The Sopaths, by Piers Anthony. it's a horrible book by any metric, but somehow compelling nonetheless.
