Reading Roundup: The 10th week of 2025
Struggled with slow Internet and disappointing fanfiction this week, but at least got a reread in!
A strange week here, much of it with the Internet at a snail's pace. It's so weird, in 2025, to see even text-based things actually taking up to 5 seconds to appear onscreen. I don't remember the dial-up days feeling like that, but perhaps I'm just glossing over the wait for things. Or maybe the Internet's just gotten bigger.
Not a lot of good on the reading front either, an entirely fanfictual week in fact, with much of my time spent not enjoying a nearly 3,000 page story with a predictable and boring ending. Ah well.
2 stars to The Legacy, by storytellerSpW
Book Description:
" Fandom: Harry Potter Relationship: Daphne Greengrass/Harry Potter
A book left by Sirius opens Harry's eyes as he delves into the mysteries of magic, learns about the realities of a war, and shifts towards the Grey. Meanwhile, Daphne Greengrass is faced with an unusual solution that involves the Boy-Who-Lived, but could be more trouble than it's worth. And in the end, there is always a price to be paid for everything. HP/DG Contract, 6-7th year."
My Thoughts:
" an overlong work with poor English, it had potential but really dragged toward the middle. I finished it because I'd hoped for a good ending, but I didnt' find myself enjoying the final third. "
This Book: has 2930 pages, a community rating of 3.50 and was first published in 2014.
3 stars to Champions, by Thor's Shadow
Book Description:
" Fandom: Harry Potter Relationship: Harry Potter/Fleur Delacour
Harry takes a moment to help another Champion during the Second Task, and the unexpected aftermath forever changes his life." My Thoughts:
" Impressive that, even after a decade of seeming abandonment, this story ended up finished. Nothing out of the ordinary here and with far more emotion than action, I can't say it was overly memorable yet I'm not put off and would read more."
This Book: has 330 pages, a community rating of 3.50 and was first published in 2010.
Things not on Goodreads or reread
- The Best Revenge , and The Best Revenge: time of the Basilisk , by Arsinoe de Blassenville. I don't know why I wanted to reread them, but they just caught my eye. A very peculiar type of Harry but with a writing style that's very easy to enjoy.
