Rosie has received a letter of thanks from the Director of the Tarashchanskaya Hospital in Kiev. It was forwarded by Djamilia, one of our regular delivery drivers from Medical Lifelines UK. The hospital received a shipment including the baby incubator donated by Noah’s Ark Hospice, children’s clothing and medical aid.
All knitted flat except last 6 rows
Buttonholes are work every 12 rows (i.e. 6 garter stitch ridges between each)
**Materials**
Aran Wool or use Double Knitting and 4ply knitted together
5mm Knitting Needles, 5mm double ended needles (set of 5)
7 buttons
**Abbrevations**
k – knit
p – purl
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* - denotes beginning and end of a stitch sequence
R - Row
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together
p2tog – purl 2 stitches together
sl1 – slip 1 stitch without knitting it
psso – pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
yrn – yarn round needle
yo – yarn over needle
mds – make double stitch
dbl – double stitch
**INSTRUCTIONS**
Cast on 64 sts.
R1 – sl1 k6 *k2 p2* to last 9 sts k to end
R2 – sl1 k6 *p2 k2* to last 9 sts p2 k to end
R3 - **Button hole row** sl1 k1 k2tog yo k3 *k2 p2* to last 9 sts k to end
R4 – Repeat R2
R5 to R20 – Repeat R1 and R2 making buttonhole on R15 (as R3)
R21 RS – sl1 k6 k2 p2 k to last 11 sts, p2 k9
R22 WS – sl1 k6 p2 k2 p to last 11 sts, k2 p2 k7
R23 to R42 – Repeat R21 and R22 making buttonholes on R27 and R39
Start heel shaping
R43 – sl1 k6 k2 p2 k35 turn
sl1 yrn (this makes “mds” or double st on purl row) p27 turn
sl1 purlwise yo (making “mds” or double st on knit row) k26 turn
sl1 yrn p25 turn
sl1 purlwise yo k24 turn
Continue on centre sts decreasing 1 st each row between the dbl sts until
sl1 purlwise yo k10, then knit 9dbl sts (by knitting the slipped stitch and wool over together) k7 p2 k9

Continue on centre sts increasing 1 st on each row between the dbl sts until

R47 to R 86 – Repeat R21 and R22 making buttonholes on R51 R63 R75
R87 – Repeat R21
R88 - k7 (onto 1st double ended needle)
p2 k2 p16 (onto 2nd double ended needle)
p19 (onto 3rd double ended needle)
p7 k2 p2 k7 (onto 4th double ended needle)
r89 – place the needle with 7 stitches behind the 7 stitches at the front of the row(making sure that the buttonholes are on top ) k these stitches together – one st from front needle and one from back needle – across all 7 stitches. Then knit the rest of the sts until you return to garter stitch band. (This is one round)
Garter stitch band marks the start of the round. Knit the rest of the rounds as follows:
