Work Smarter
📞 Networking Edition. Networking can sound like a bad word. But mostly, I’ve found that it’s chatting with people you think are cool. Here is a checklist you can go through to “expand your network” and “synergize with like-minded individuals.”
-
If you’re POC, it might be worth it to join the Uproot Project. If you’re not POC, ask around for good Slack channels to join, or maybe start a discord with friends! You’re not the only person in the world who wants to know more cool people, I promise.
-
Some great all season advice from The Cut. Be explicit about how much time you’ll ask from someone if you genuinely want their help with a project.
-
Ask them to talk about themselves (which, if you’re really interested in what they’re doing, should be easy) and offer to compensate them for their time.
-
Follow-up. This doesn’t have to be a saccharine thank-you note! Maybe send them an article about a mutual interest or a meme in the DMs, depending on who they are to you.
What got me through last week:
I’m rewatching Adventure Time in the evenings. So many bangers in season 5! The Grass Sword, Rattleballs, the origin of Betty, so many little things that don’t pay off until 20+ episodes later.
